Industrial Grade SDEA (CAS 93-82-3) – Emulsifier, Thickener & Rust Inhibitor for Detergents/Metal Processing

Stearic Acid Diethanolamide (SDEA), a non-ionic surfactant, is synthesized through the condensation reaction of stearic acid and diethanolamine. It exhibits excellent emulsifying, lubricating, thickening, opacifying, and rust-inhibiting properties, making it widely applicable in textile, cosmetic, detergent, metal processing, and other industries.

Product Brief: Stearic Acid Diethanolamide (SDEA)

Stearic Acid Diethanolamide (SDEA), a non-ionic surfactant (CAS: 93-82-3, Formula: C₂₂H₄₅NO₃), is synthesized via condensation of stearic acid and diethanolamine. It appears as off-white to pale yellow solid with ≥99% solid content, pH 8-11 (1% aqueous solution), and good chemical stability.
Boasting emulsifying, lubricating, thickening, opacifying, and rust-inhibiting properties, SDEA finds wide use: as lubricant/softener in textiles, emulsifier/opacifier in cosmetics (creams, lotions), and additive in detergents/metal processing. Packaged in 200kg drums, it has a 2-year shelf life when stored in dry, ventilated areas.

Product Advantage

  1. Exceptional Purity & Stable Quality: SDEA features a solid content of ≥99%, far exceeding general industry standards, ensuring consistent performance in various applications. With total amine value ≤45 mgKOH/g and acid value ≤20 mgKOH/g, it maintains stable chemical properties under normal conditions, minimizing performance fluctuations and reducing application risks for customers.

  2. Versatile Surface Activity: As a non-ionic surfactant, it integrates excellent emulsifying, thickening, and opacifying abilities. It can stably disperse oil phases in water to form fine emulsions, increase product viscosity by adjusting addition amount, and scatter light to enhance product appearance—all-in-one to simplify formula design.

  3. Broad Compatibility & Stability: It shows good compatibility with most surfactants, oils, and polymers. Chemically stable under general temperature and pH (suitable for pH 8-11 systems), it only hydrolyzes under extreme conditions (strong acid/alkali, high temperature), ensuring long-term stability of end products during storage and use.

  4. Multi-Functional Application Value: Beyond core surfactant functions, it acts as a lubricant, rust inhibitor, and antistatic agent. For example, it reduces fiber friction in textiles and forms protective films on metal surfaces to prevent corrosion, realizing "one product for multiple uses" and lowering customers’ raw material procurement costs.

  5. Reliable Safety & Easy Storage: It is relatively safe with low irritation to skin and eyes (only requiring water rinsing for accidental contact). Packaged in 200kg drums, it has a 2-year shelf life when stored in dry, ventilated, and light-proof environments, facilitating inventory management for enterprises.

Product Uses

  1. Textile Industry: Used as a lubricant and softener, it reduces friction between fibers, minimizes static generation, makes textiles softer and smoother, and improves processing efficiency and product comfort—suitable for cotton, chemical fiber, and blended fabric processing.

  2. Cosmetics Industry: Serves as an emulsifier and opacifier in creams, lotions, and sunscreens. It stabilizes oil-water mixtures, refines product texture for easy application, and scatters light to enhance appearance while aiding in UV protection.

  3. Detergent Field: Added to detergents, it boosts decontamination ability, stabilizes foam, and improves cleaning effect on oil stains. It is compatible with anionic/cationic surfactants, fitting liquid and powder detergent formulas.

  4. Metal Processing: Acts as a rust inhibitor and lubricant. It forms protective films on metal parts (e.g., mechanical components, cutting tools) to prevent corrosion during storage/transport, and reduces wear during processing to improve workpiece surface finish.

  5. Paper & Leather Industries: In papermaking, it works as a paper softener to enhance paper flexibility; in leather processing, it softens leather and improves water resistance, extending leather product service life.

Product Operate Guide

For most applications: Heat SDEA to 50-60℃ to soften (if solid) before use. Add it slowly to the target system while stirring at 300-500 rpm. Adjust dosage (typically 0.5-5% of total formula) based on needs. Avoid mixing with strong acids/alkalis directly. After use, seal the drum tightly and store as per storage guidelines to maintain quality.

FAQ

1、Q: What if SDEA clumps during storage?

A: Gently break clumps by hand (wear gloves). If severe, heat to 40-50℃ for 10-15 mins to soften—avoid overheating, as it won't affect product performance.

2、Q: Can SDEA be used in acidic formulas?

A: It's unstable in strong acids (pH < 4). For slightly acidic systems (pH 5-6), test a small sample first to check emulsification stability before full use.

3、Q: Is there a safety risk if SDEA touches skin?

A: It has low irritation. Rinse skin with clean water immediately if contacted. Avoid eye contact—if it happens, flush with water for 5 mins and consult a doctor if needed.
