Tween Series (20/40/60/80) Polysorbate Nonionic Surfactant Emulsifier & Solubilizer

1. Introduction

Tween series, also known as Polysorbate, are polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters, nonionic surfactants with 20 ethylene oxide (EO) units. They are manufactured by reacting Span (sorbitan fatty acid ester) with ethylene oxide. The four main types differ only in their fatty acid chain: lauric (T20), palmitic (T40), stearic (T60), oleic (T80).

2. Key Features

• High HLB & Water Soluble: HLB 14.9–16.7, freely soluble in water, ethanol and methanol.

• Strong Emulsifying Power: Excellent O/W emulsifier, stabilizes emulsions in wide pH/temperature range.

• Good Solubilization: Solubilizes essential oils, fragrances and lipophilic actives.

• Mild & Safe: Non-irritating, low toxicity, biodegradable; food/cosmetic/pharma grade available.

• Wide Compatibility: Compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants.

3. Applications

• Cosmetics: Emulsifier for creams, lotions, shampoos; solubilizer for essential oils.

• Food: Food-grade emulsifier for bakery, beverages, dressings.

• Pharmaceuticals: Excipient, emulsifier for injections, ointments.

• Textiles: Wetting agent, dyeing assistant, emulsifier for textile oils.

• Industrial: Emulsifier for paints, coatings, pesticides; dispersant for pigments.

• Storage: Keep sealed in cool, dry place; avoid direct sunlight
