Emulsifier OS-15: Basic Introduction

Emulsifier OS-15 is a non-ionic surfactant with the chemical composition of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether. It appears as milky white paste or solid, with a pH value of 5.0-7.0 (1% aqueous solution), cloud point of 80-88℃ (5% NaCl solution), HLB value of 14-16 (theoretical reference), and moisture ≤1.0%.
It dissolves in water and has excellent emulsifying, cleaning, wetting and leveling properties. Widely used in printing and dyeing (as a leveling agent), metal processing (as an emulsifying cleaner), chemical fiber and wool spinning (as a textile oil and raw wool detergent), electroplating (as a key component of high-temperature brightener) and general industry (as an emulsifier for mineral/vegetable oils). It is packed in 200kg iron drums or 50kg plastic drums, with a 2-year shelf life when stored in a dry and ventilated place.

Product Advantage

  1. Excellent Comprehensive Performance with Stable Technical Indicators
Emulsifier OS-15 boasts well-balanced core technical parameters: its pH value ranges from 5.0 to 7.0 (in 1% aqueous solution), close to neutral, avoiding acid-base corrosion to processed materials; the cloud point is 80-88℃ (in 5% NaCl solution), ensuring stable performance under medium-high temperature conditions; and moisture content is ≤1.0%, minimizing product deterioration risks. These precise indicators guarantee consistent quality in large-scale industrial applications.
  2. Multi-Functional Integration Reducing Production Costs
It integrates three key functions—emulsification, cleaning, and wetting/leveling—eliminating the need to mix multiple surfactants in production. For example, in textile processing, it replaces separate emulsifiers and leveling agents, cutting raw material procurement costs by 15%-20% (estimated based on common industrial formula ratios) while simplifying production processes and reducing operational errors.
  3. Strong Emulsifying Stability for Wide Substrate Adaptability
With a theoretical HLB value of 14-16, the product exhibits strong emulsifying ability for both mineral oils and vegetable oils. The emulsions prepared with it remain stable for over 6 months (tested under normal temperature and sealed conditions) without stratification, making it suitable for scenarios requiring long-term emulsion storage, such as metal cutting fluid preparation.
  4. Broad Temperature Adaptability Expanding Application Scope
Unlike low-cloud-point surfactants that lose efficacy at high temperatures, its 80-88℃ cloud point allows stable operation in high-temperature processes like high-temperature electroplating and textile boiling. It also maintains good solubility and functionality in room-temperature environments (e.g., daily cleaning), covering a temperature range of 20-90℃ for diverse industrial needs.
  5. Eco-Friendly and Low-Corrosive Characteristics
As a non-ionic surfactant, it has low biological toxicity and is easily biodegradable, complying with basic environmental protection requirements for industrial auxiliaries. Its neutral pH (5.0-7.0) ensures no corrosion to metal surfaces (e.g., aluminum, steel) or textile fibers (e.g., cotton, polyester), protecting processed products’ quality and reducing scrap rates.

Product Uses

  1. Printing and Dyeing Industry: Leveling and Boiling Auxiliary
It acts as a leveling agent to ensure uniform dye adsorption on fibers, enhancing color fastness and making dyed fabrics bright and consistent. Meanwhile, its excellent boiling performance helps remove impurities from textile fibers, laying a good foundation for subsequent dyeing processes.
  2. Metal Processing: Emulsifying Cleaner
It efficiently removes mineral oil stains on metal surfaces (e.g., machining oil, rust-preventive oil). After cleaning, the metal surface remains smooth without residue, facilitating subsequent processes like coating, welding, or assembly and improving the final product's precision.
  3. Chemical Fiber and Wool Spinning Industry: Textile Oil Agent and Raw Wool Detergent
As a textile oil agent, it reduces friction between fibers to prevent breakage during spinning. As a raw wool detergent, it eliminates dirt, grease, and impurities from raw wool, ensuring the wool's softness and improving the quality of spun yarn.
  4. Electroplating Industry: Key Component of High-Temperature Plating Brightener
In high-temperature electroplating processes, it promotes uniform deposition of metal ions on the substrate surface, enhancing the plating layer's brightness and smoothness. It also improves the plating solution's stability, extending the solution's service life and reducing plating costs.
  5. General Industry: Universal Emulsifier for Oils
It is used to emulsify mineral oils (e.g., lubricating oil, cutting oil) and vegetable oils (e.g., soybean oil, castor oil) into stable emulsions. These emulsions are widely applied in fields like daily chemical cleaning (as detergent components) and agricultural chemical formulations (as pesticide emulsifiers).

Product Operate Guide

Add Emulsifier OS-15 to water or the target oil phase under stirring (300-500 rpm) at 25-60℃. For general emulsification, use 3%-8% of the total formulation weight. Avoid mixing with strong acids/bases. After adding, stir for 10-15 minutes to ensure uniform dispersion. Adjust dosage based on specific application (e.g., 5%-7% for metal cleaning, 4%-6% for textile leveling) for optimal results.

FAQ

1. What if Emulsifier OS-15 is stored beyond the 2-year shelf life?

If stored properly (dry, ventilated) but beyond 2 years, check its appearance first. If no discoloration or stratification occurs, test small batches for emulsifying ability. Do not use it directly in large-scale production to avoid affecting product quality.

2. Can it still work if the process temperature exceeds its cloud point (80-88℃)?

No. Beyond 88℃, it may lose solubility and emulsifying performance, leading to uneven emulsion or function failure. Ensure process temperature stays below 88℃; pre-cool materials if needed for high-temperature scenarios.

3. How to adjust the dosage if the emulsion made is not stable?

First, confirm HLB matching with the oil phase. If stable, increase dosage by 1%-2% (e.g., from 5% to 6%-7%) and extend stirring time to 20 minutes. Avoid over-dosage, which may cause foam or cost waste.

4. Is Emulsifier OS-15 compatible with anionic surfactants?

Yes, it has good compatibility with most anionic surfactants (e.g., sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate). Test small proportions (1:1 to 1:3) first to check for precipitation or turbidity, then adjust the ratio based on actual application effects.

5. Will the product's pH value change during storage?

Under proper storage, its pH (5.0-7.0) remains stable. Avoid mixing with acidic/alkaline substances or exposing to moisture, as these may alter pH. Check pH with a test strip before use if stored for over 1 year.
